FORT KNOX, Kentucky (May 6, 2016) - Ireland Army Community Hospital will limit all new inpatient surgical cases beginning June 1.
Cesarean sections, all currently scheduled surgeries will continue; however, the hospital will not schedule any new inpatient surgeries after June 1 due to operating room staffing changes and their impact on maintaining safe, quality care.
Any surgical procedure involving a hospital inpatient admission AND an overnight stay is considered inpatient surgery. Outpatient surgeries will continue. Patients can contact the Ireland Patient Representative 502-624-9011 if they have questions.
The hospital is scheduled to transition into an outpatient clinic and will end all inpatient and emergency services by Dec. 15. These services may no longer be available sooner than Dec. 15 if providing safe, quality care becomes a challenge due to staff availability, which is the case with inpatient surgery.
Service members and TRICARE beneficiaries will continue to have their inpatient surgical care needs met by our central Kentucky community health care partners.
Additional details on the transformation, to include its impact on the workforce and affected communities, will be provided as details change. Ireland Army Community Hospital leadership will ensure the community and its staff are kept informed as the transition moves forward towards completion.
